Over time, gravity and sun exposure take their toll on the neck region. The lower face slackens (creating jowls); and the neck develops loose folds (platysmal diastasis) and fat deposits (submental lipodystrophy) collect under the chin. A Necklift counteracts these signs of aging by tightening muscle, removing fat, trimming excess skin, thereby giving the neck region a fresher, more youthful look. The results are dramatic and long lasting.
Dr. Roberto Garcia has performed thousands of aging face surgeries and has developed a very conservative and natural approach that provides patients with minimal downtime and amazing results.

Who are good candidates for a Necklift?
The ideal candidates for a Necklift want to correct one or more of the signs of aging indicated above; have some facial sagging, but still have elasticity in their skin; are generally healthy; and have realistic expectations about what Necklift can do.
How is a Necklift performed?
A Necklift is typically performed as an outpatient procedure in a JCAHO/AAAHC accredited surgery center with board certified Anesthesiologists, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, and Registered Nurses. Patients may have a choice of Local anesthesia, IV sedation or general anesthesia. The procedure takes about 2 hours.
On certain occasions, a Necklift can be performed in our office under mild sedation with a local anesthetic. Dr. Garcia will discuss all the options with you at the time of your consultation.
Dr. Garcia performs a unique and natural technique with barely visible scars that blend into the natural hairline. He does not shave any hair during the procedure. As such, any healing incisions are covered immediately by the hairline. Dr. Roberto Garcia will outline the procedure at the time of consultation and again on the day of surgery. The entire procedure is performed by Dr. Garcia from the first small amount of anesthetic given to the last stitch.
What is the recovery from a Necklift like?
After a Necklift, Dr. Garcia wraps the incisions in light bandages that are removed the next morning. The next morning all incisions are carefully cleaned by our staff and the hair is gently cleansed.
Dr. Garcia specializes in a very meticulous closure of all incisions and these stitches are carefully removed one week after the surgery. Swelling, numbness, bruising and a feeling of tightness or tension in the face and neck may be felt. Most of these side effects resolve within 3 to 6 weeks. Sensation typically returns to normal within a few months. Scars become less red, raised, lumpy and itchy over time.
What are the risks of a Necklift?
Although rare, possible complications of a necklift include bleeding, infection, bruising, swelling or discoloration, allergic reaction to the anesthesia, skin blistering (usually in smokers), nerve injury, and temporary loss of sensation in the face.
How long do the effects of a Necklift last?
Results of a Necklift are long lasting. Approximately, 10-15 years from now, one may begin to show similar signs of facial aging. As such, some patients choose to undergo “touch up” procedures to keep a certain rejuvenated look., Of significance, the neck will always look better than if Necklift had not been performed.
The Necklift Consultation Using 3D Imaging
At Contoura Facial Plastic Surgery we offer the Vectra 3D, a state of the art imaging system that allows patients to preview their expected results prior to undergoing a procedure.
During your consultation, Dr. Garcia will take photographs of a patient’s face or specific part that will be performed on. He will then create a 3D digital replication of the same body part using the VECTRA simulator. These images will allow Dr. Garcia to preview the various surgical/nonsurgical options with the patient.
