What is a Mini facelift?
Over time, gravity and sun exposure take their toll on the lower face and neck. Deep creases that run from each side of the nose to the corners of the mouth appear (nasolabial lines); the jawline slackens (creating jowls); and the neck develops loose folds (platysmal diastasis) and fat deposits (submental lipodystrophy). A Mini Facelift counteracts these signs of aging by tightening muscle, removing fat and trimming excess skin, giving the face a fresher, more youthful look.
Dr. Roberto Garcia has performed thousands of aging face surgeries and has developed a very conservative and natural approach that provides our patients with minimal downtime and amazing results.
Benefits of a mini facelift
A Mini facelift improves the look of the lower and middle areas of the face, and the neck. It is most effective for correcting the following:
- Mid-face sagging
- Nasolabial folds
- Marionette lines (corner of the mouth)
- Loose bands of skin and fat under the chin and jaw

Who are good candidates for a Mini facelift?
The ideal candidates for a Mini facelift want to correct one or more of the signs of aging indicated above; have some facial sagging, but still have elasticity in their skin; are generally healthy; and have realistic expectations about what a Mini facelift can do.
Mini facelift procedure
A Mini facelift is typically performed as an outpatient procedure in a JCAHO/AAAHC accredited surgery center with board certified Anesthesiologists, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, and Registered Nurses. Patients may have a choice of IV sedation or general anesthesia. The procedure takes about 2 hours.
Dr. Garcia performs a unique and natural technique with barely visible scars that blend into the natural hairline. He does not shave any hair. As such, any healing incisions are covered immediately by the hairline. Dr. Roberto Garcia will outline the procedure with his patients at the time of the consultation and again on the day of surgery. The entire procedure is performed by Dr. Garcia from the first small amount of anesthetic given to the last stitch.
What Type Of Anesthesia Is Used In A Mini facelift Procedure?
Mini facelifts are done utilizing IV sedation with a local anesthetic. There is an anesthesiologist and a certified nurse anesthetist present throughout the surgery. The patient is unconscious and monitored the entire time.
Is there any pain associated with a Mini facelift?
There is very little pain or discomfort associated with a mini lift. Nevertheless, we provide our patients with pain medication just in case if needed. Typically, our patients do not require the medication.
Can a mini facelift be combined with any other procedure?
Yes, frequently, a Mini facelift can be combined with other procedures such as a brow lift, blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, fat grafting, and many more. The decision to add procedures depends on the patient’s concerns. A treatment plan is developed by Dr. Garcia and the patient during the consultation which includes a discussion which procedures are recommended.
what can i do to help optimize my results?
The duration of results depends on many factors: The type of skin-fair thin skin ages faster than darker thin skin. Minilift results last longer in darker skin-10-12 years than in fair thin skin patients .
Age at time of the Mini Facelift- Younger patients (45-60) with fewer aging changes tend to have longer lasting results than older patients (70’s on.)
Condition of skin at time of the Mini Facelift- patients with severe sun damage, smokers and others with advanced aging changes often do not achieve as long lasting results as people with healthy skin. Generally speaking, patients with healthy skin to expect their result to last 10-12 years. Patients with fair thin sun damaged skin will likely need a revision in 2-4 years. The skill of your surgeon-this is probably the most important factor.

mini facelift risks and side effects
Although rare, possible complications of a Mini facelift include:
- Allergic reaction to the anesthesia
- Skin blistering (usually in smokers)
- Nerve injury
- Temporary loss of sensation in the face
How long do the Results last?
Results of a Facelift are in effect long lasting as the tissues removed during the surgery will not come back. Nevertheless, the aging process continues and perhaps 10-15 years from now, one may begin to show similar signs of facial aging. If that is the case, some patients may choose to undergo “touch up” procedures to keep a certain rejuvenated look. After a Minilift, however, the face will look better than if the procedure had not been performed.
Mini facelift recovery
After a Minilift, Dr. Garcia wraps the incisions in light bandages that are removed the next morning. The next morning all incisions are carefully cleaned by our staff and the hair is gently cleansed.
Recovery from any facelift is somewhat variable depending upon the individual. A minilift may have slight shorter times but not always. True recovery or time back up on your feet and able to go for a walk or get things done. This should be no more than a day or two. Downtime or the time for the swelling and bruising to pass so that you can go out with some makeup on is usually 7 to 10 days but may be a little longer depending upon you and the extent of the procedure. I tell my patients that 80% of swelling is gone in 2 weeks and 90% of the swelling is usually gone at 2 months but 80%. Small lumps and bumps that can occasionally form may be 3 to 6 months before they are completely gone.
Dr. Garcia specializes in a very meticulous closure of all incisions. These stitches are carefully removed one week after the surgery. Swelling, numbness, bruising and a feeling of tightness or tension in the face and neck may be felt. Most of these side effects resolve within 3 to 6 weeks, and sensation typically returns to normal within a few months. Scars become less red, raised, lumpy and itchy over time.
The Mini Facelift Consultation Using 3D Imaging
At Contoura Facial Plastic Surgery we offer the Vectra 3D, a state of the art imaging system that allows patients to preview their expected results prior to undergoing a procedure.
During your consultation, Dr. Garcia will take photographs of a patient’s face or specific part that will be performed on. He will then create a 3D digital replication of the same body part using the VECTRA simulator. These images will allow Dr. Garcia to preview the various surgical/nonsurgical options with the patient.
