Contoura (Fat Transfer)
What is Contoura Fat Transfer Surgery?
As the face ages, certain areas of the face can reflect a significant amount of volume loss. Many times, these changes can be attributed to hormonal surges and depletions that can cause fat to atrophy. As a result, the face can appear “flattened” and “deflated”, taking away from the eyes, which are usually the most appealing part of the human face.
Dr. Garcia has performed thousands of Contoura Fat Transfer procedures, also called Structural Fat Grafting or Autologous Fat Transfer procedures, to the face. The procedure is very natural and has virtually a non-existent risk of reaction or infection.
What can the Contoura Fat Transfer do for me?
Contoura Fat Transfer can be performed to improve the effects of facial aging due to volume loss. It is most effective for correcting the following:
- Hollowing Temples
- Volume loss to the upper eyelids
- Hollow under eye areas (tear trough area)
- Flattened cheeks
- Downward lines from the corner of the nose (nasolabial lines)
- Downward lines from the corner of the mouth (marionette lines)
- Deep crease of the chin below the lip
- Sagging jowl appearance

Am I a good candidate for Contoura Fat Transfer?
The ideal candidates for Contoura Fat Transfer want to correct one or more of the signs of aging indicated above; have some facial volume loss, but still have elasticity in their skin; are generally healthy; and have realistic expectations about what Contoura Fat Transfer can do.
fat transfer procedure
Dr. Roberto Garcia performs Contoura Fat Transfer surgery either alone or in conjunction with other aging face surgeries at his Ponte Vedra Beach location. If performed alone, the procedure can be performed in an office based surgery setting under mild sedation with a local anesthetic. If Dr. Garcia is performing Contoura Fat Transfer as part of another surgery necessitating heavier anesthesia, it will be done in a JCAHO/AAAHC accredited surgery center with board certified Anesthesiologists, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, and Registered Nurses. Patients may have a choice of IV sedation or general anesthesia. The procedure can vary from 1-3 hours in length.
What is the recovery from Fat transfer like?
After Contoura Fat Transfer, Dr. Garcia will instruct you on how to care for the grafted areas and those areas where the fat had been harvested from. If performed alone, the recovery is virtually non-existent and most patients will return to work the next day. If performed along with other aging face surgeries, then the recovery may be longer.
Contoura Fat transfer surgery risk and complications
Although rare, possible complications of Contoura Fat Transfer include:
How long do the effects of Contoura Fat Transfer last?
Results of Contoura Fat Transfer using Dr. Garcia’s technique are long lasting, in the sense that the volume restored will stay in place. Unfortunately, the same aging process that atrophied the fat in the first place, will likely persist over time. In the meantime, our patients look much younger simply by replenishing the lost facial volume! For maintenance purposes however, some patients choose to undergo “touch up” procedures to keep a certain rejuvenated look.

The Contoura Fat transfer Consultation Using 3D Imaging
At Contoura Facial Plastic Surgery we offer the Vectra 3D, a state of the art imaging system that allows patients to preview their expected results prior to undergoing a procedure.
During your consultation, Dr. Garcia will take photographs of a patient’s face or specific part that will be performed on. He will then create a 3D digital replication of the same body part using the VECTRA simulator. These images will allow Dr. Garcia to preview the various surgical/nonsurgical options with the patient.
